Complete control
The first Fluxetype letters were cut out of paper — taken apart, then reassembled by hand. Moving and shifting the pieces, Nikita Kanarev kept running into the same questions: thicken a stroke and the letter's proportions shift with it; widen a counter and the contrast reads differently. The parameters wouldn't stay still independently — each one dragged the others along.
That was the problem worth solving. The three axes are the answer: weight, contrast, and x-height — the three forces that kept colliding on the table, now pulled apart so each can move without disturbing the other two.
Weight
Contrast
Caption
zero contrast, clean and technical, built for text-heavy layouts and UI navigation.
Text
moderate contrast, the reliable everyday workhorse.
Title
expressive, made for subheadings and mid-scale accents.
Display
maximum contrast, tight spacing, effortlessly elegant at large sizes
X-height
Petite (70%)
classical proportions, compact rhythm
Normal (74%)
the balanced default
Grande (78%)
an elevated x-height optimised for screen reading and interfaces.
In Grande mode, ascenders and descenders are automatically reduced — so the lowercase body appears even larger at any given size, while line spacing stays comfortable and open
OpenType features
Fluxetype is not a compromise between display and text. It is a system — designed as one from the very beginning. Which means the details had to follow the same logic.
Standard and discretionary ligatures. Arrow substitutions. Alternate forms for g, A, M, N, X. Bulgarian and Serbian Cyrillic. Old-style figures, tabular figures, fractions, superscripts, subscripts. Case-sensitive punctuation.
Everything a project requires
